Florence: Today we will take a city tour of
Florence. We will visit; the Arno River, neighboring Ponte
Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Palace. Visit Florence's
oldest building, the Romanesque Bapitistry, adorned with pink,
white and green marble. Ghiberti competed with other artists for
the right to sculpt the finely detailed bronze doors, called the
“Gates of Paradise,” designed by fellow artist
Michelangelo. One of the oldest buildings in Florence, it was
initially the city's cathedral. The interior of this building is
just as beautiful as the exterior. The walls are covered in
marble and ancient Roman columns stand below a blazing mosaic
ceiling. In the center, there is an empty octagon marking the
altar where children born in the past year were baptized on New
Year's Eve. This afternoon you can visit the Academy of Fine
Arts, highlighted by Michelangelo's David, commissioned in 1501
by the Florentine Republic when Michelangelo was only 25 years
old. From a seemingly unusable block of marble, he sculpted one
of the greatest masterpieces of civilization.
|
|
Florence: Today you'll enjoy a full day in
Florence. Explore the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, the Medici Palace
whose construction goes back to 1444. Inside you can admire the
wonderful Magi chapel, frescoed by Benozzo Gozoli, depicting his
festive, fairytale interpretation of the Journey of the Magi.
Today the Palazzo is the seat of the Prefecture and the Province
of Florence. Continue to the incomparable Uffizi Palace, one of
the most loved monuments of Florence. It is an architectural
work of great importance that shelters masterpieces of
inestimable value. The Uffizi Gallery contains rooms and rooms
of art collections – some of the artists exhibited are Filippo,
Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. The Galleries
were bequeathed to the people of Tuscany by the last Medici, and
house art collected over three centuries. The Uffizi Gallery is
one of the most famous and celebrated museums in the world. |
